Ankur Jain,
Founder, B9 Beveragesage: 35
During long Saturday afternoons at the Brooklyn Brewery in New York, where he ran a health-care startup, Jain felt India had “no beer worth drinking”. In 2007 he returned to India and started a company that imported the good stuff. Then last February, he launched Bira 91, India’s first bottled craft beer. Soon, the beer with the mischievous monkey logo “went viral”, selling 23,000 cases a month last year and growing 30% month on month. It holds 30% of the premium beer market and sells in seven cities. In January, Jain raised Rs 40 crore led by Sequoia Capital—the first deal of its kind for the investor in India.
