Arunabh Kumar,
Founder and CEO, TVF Media Labsage: 33
As Netflix trains its guns on India, showbiz pundits will watch Kumar’s moves closely. Especially after a blockbuster 2015, when TVF’s web series Pitchers, the story of four friends struggling to start their own company, burst onto the top 25 of IMDb’s iconic rankings—beating Netflix’s Narcos and House of Cards. Arguably the most successful example of branded content to have come out of India, Pitchers, sponsored by beer behemoth Kingfisher, garnered seven million views over its five episodes. At the WebTV Asia Awards last October, TVF was crowned the most popular Indian channel. This was also a year when Kumar shed TVF’s dependence on YouTube: Its website now hosts shows before they are uploaded on YouTube, and it has launched a new app. Next stop: Bollywood?
