He doesn’t own a car, and books a cab from his phone whenever he needs to travel. Ola, the cab aggregator he started in 2011, has become one of the most valuable startups in the world and the biggest of its kind in India. Last year, it raised $210 million from SoftBank, and in February, it acquired rival TaxiForSure for $200 million. The real test: retaining customers once the subsidised rides dry up.
