Axio’s easy-to-peel haemostatic (bleeding reduction) pads were used last year by both sides in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The product, inspired by a polymer found in shells of insects and marine organisms, received a certification from the European Union, and a mention on Medgadget.com, in 2013. Some 50,000 units have been sold so far, half of them to militaries around the world. Axio has built the product at one-tenth the cost it would take in the U.S. or Europe. Next stop: incorporation in Boston for the patent filing.
