When Rao took the reins two years ago, his brief was to stabilise operations in one of LinkedIn’s fastest-growing markets. At the time, LinkedIn India had 14 million members. Today, it is more than 28 million, with much of that growth coming in the past year. Rao is now focussing on increasing the relevance of LinkedIn for businesses. “LinkedIn is like a Swiss knife. You have to be a power user to get the maximum out of it,” he says. He is also shaping students’ experience of the platform that is so far known for professional users.
