P. Sankar and V. Banka,
Co-Founders, Social Copsage: 23, 23
SocialCops started in 2013 as a bank of difficult-to-access civic data. The duo ran a $600 crowdfunding campaign and have since raised $320,000 and roped in Google India’s Rajan Anandan as advisor. They now work with nonprofits, CSR departments, and volunteers to get data from remote areas via an Android-based tool. The data get analysed and sold to clients—ranging from Unilever to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. “If a girl wants to know the safest route home, we should be able to help,” says Sankar.
