The Jains left their high profile jobs in consulting and fashion to do something more meaningful—to help people who can’t afford hospital expenses. In 2014, the husband-wife duo set up Impact Guru, which helps patients crowd-source financing for their hospitalisation expenses. Impact Guru keeps 5% of all the money raised by the patient. Since inception, it has helped 20,000 patients, raising over `50 crore via crowdsourcing for their treatment. The co-founders think their model is scaleable as donors don’t want to give just for charity but also for tax benefits. Investors are slowly buying into their story—the firm has raised $2.5 million and hospital chains such as Apollo Hospitals want to be a part of their journey.
