The two-year-old startup is one of the better-funded in India’s nascent social com - merce industry, which is touted to scale at a CAGR of 55%-60% through 2025. SimSim raised $8 million last year in a Series B round led by existing inves - tors Shunwei Capital and Accel Partners, which brought its to - tal funding to about $16 million. Its niche is using influencer vid - eos to sell products from over 900 brands and merchants to consumers in tier 2 cities and below. Bagaria and Vashishtha, both former senior executives at Paytm, and Suri, previously in the C-suite at Foodpanda, aim to bring the online shop - ping experience to vernacularspeaking, video-first Indians, 50% of whom are from beyond the top 100 cities. The Androidfocussed platform publishes videos—in Hindi, Tamil, Ben - gali, and English—made by influencers who hail from the same micro-communities as the app’s users, which gives them a deeper understanding of shopping and consumption patterns. SimSim has over one million users and delivers or - ders to about 600 cities every month, giving it a head start among startups trying to rep - licate the success of Chinese video commerce in India.
