Suraj Saharan,
Co-Founder and COO, Delhiveryage: 32
He grew up on a farm, but is not your typical farm-boy. What fascinates him is supply chain. Saharan is putting together a team of 250 engineers to use data analysis to solve automation and routing problems. He has also got Blue Dart and FedEx veterans into senior management positions. “It freed the founders to think up new initiatives,” says Saharan, who doubled headcount to more than 16,000 in 2015. Last year, Delhivery moved its routing system from PIN code-based to locality-based, a more complex but more efficient system. The number of shipments handled by a person has gone up 1.5 times as a result, helping the company triple daily deliveries to more than 2 lakh. The next big one: A project to service Southeast Asian countries. If retailers succeed in resolving the legalities, this can be a game changer. Last year, Tiger Global invested $85 million in the company. Saharan’s dream: To combine his Delhivery experience and his farming roots to solve the farm-to-fork problem.
