XISS offers defining moment creating what one stands for

XISS: Always Quick to Respond

The pandemic has disrupted the school education and higher education sector severely. Education in the post pandemic cannot be the same again. Today or tomorrow, the schools will certainly regain their relevance, but education will have to move beyond classrooms. It is at this outset, one has to look at the New Education Policy. The NEP 2020 aims at bringing transformational changes in the Indian education system from global perspectives. The new policy offers a multi-disciplinary, value-based approach focussing on holistic education along with life-skills with special emphasis on skill development to improve high employability rate among the students. The Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) was prompt and quite proactive in analysing these changes and acting accordingly.

Director’s Speak:

“The post-corona world is going to be totally different from pre-corona world. Many top industries are adversely affected necessitating a paradigm shift, reimagination and reinvention in all spheres of life. In the given circumstances, adaptation is the key and not rigidity. It is survival of the fastest and not of the fittest that is the demand of the times. In India, joblessness is still a serious issue. The world is moving in the direction of forced entrepreneurship. It is going to have control of our life. We at XISS were quite proactive in analysing this change and hence we train our students in all possible directions be it developing acumen for industry aptness or thriving as a flourishing entrepreneur.”

Objectives & Journey So far:

XISS, founded as an extension department of St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, in 1955, aims at training young men and women in Rural Development, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. In 1973 the institute was registered as a separate educational society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Subsequently, in 1978, it moved to its present site and over the years has developed its own distinct identity as a centre of excellence in management education, research, consultancy, and development interventions. XISS has all along been prompt in responding to market needs and demands. Rolling out of new curriculum revolving around Marketing and Finance has been a case in point. This has taken XISS to new heights and strengthened the brand-XISS.

Value Proposition & Core Strength:

As the XISS Director aptly points out, the value proposition from XISS is not limited to a flourishing career as professionals in human resource, marketing, finance, and rural management but an all-round development as a competent human being in all aspects of life. The premier institute substantiates its vision and mission by offering a number of institutional scholarships which is merit-cum-need based.

Its core strength lies in best curriculum mapped with current Industry requirements, qualified and experienced faculty with national and international networks, corporate interface & alumni relations, student leadership & initiatives, social immersion.”

Alumni Bytes:

Consider what some of the bright and prominent alumnus of this premier institute has to say about their alma mater.

Dr Pawan Kr. Singh, Director, Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, says: “XISS helped me learn the nuances of managing the human side of management so well.”

Soumya Mukherjee, Director-Asia Pacific Leader, Global Transfer Pricing Center, Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP, says: “XISS helped me to learn how to lead in a multi-cultural and challenging environment and inculcated the core human values like empathy, sharing, and giving back which, I believe are extremely important for the development of a professional.

It is therefore not too difficult to understand why the two years at XISS turn out to be that defining moment for a student, which can create what one stands for.
