India records 2.58 lakh new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours
India recorded 2,58,089 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours with an active caseload of 16.56 lakh patients. Three days ago, the active caseload was 12.72 lakh cases. Active cases now stand at 4.43% and recovery rate is currently at 94.27%.
Daily positivity rate has increased to 19.65% from 16.28% a day ago and 14.78% three days ago. The weekly positivity rate is 14.41%, up from 13.69% yesterday. A total of 1,51,740 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,52,37,461.
Omicron cases in the country have also increased to 8,209, an increase of 6.02% since yesterday. While Maharashtra had 1,738 cases, West Bengal stood next with 1,672 cases and Rajasthan with 1,276 cases. So far, 3,109 Omicron patients have either recovered or been discharged from hospitals.
Highest number of new cases in the last 24 hours were recorded in Karnataka (28,132). Tamil Nadu (11,469), Uttar Pradesh (8,326), Maharashtra (912) and Kerala (13,216) reported a high number of new Covid-19 cases in a day. States like Odisha (6,722), Rajasthan (4,977), West Bengal (4,929), Gujarat (4,046), Delhi (3,588), Haryana (4,533), Punjab (3,704) and Madhya Pradesh (4,593) are also witnessing high numbers of infections.
Total vaccination doses given in the country now stands at 157 crore, including nearly 40 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours. The country also did 13.13 lakh tests yesterday.
