South Korean carmaker Kia Motors launched its first all-electric model Kia EV6 electric crossover in India at the starting price of ₹59.95 lakh (ex-showroom, India) today. The Kia EV6, which is the automaker's flagship offering, comes in two variants -- GT Line and GT Line AWD. While GT Line AWD has been priced at ₹64.95 lakh (ex-showroom), GT Line will cost you ₹59.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
As per the company, Kia intended to sell only 100 units of EV6 in India via CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit) route, for which bookings opened on May 26, 2022, and all are already sold out, says Kia. In total, the company received over 350 advanced bookings for Kia EV6. Kia says it'll deliver the first EV6 in India in September 2022.
Kia, in a statement, says the EV6 marks the beginning of its sustainable mobility journey in India. EV6 vehicle "boasts a highly impressive real-world driving range, ultra-fast charging capabilities, and a spacious, high-tech interior," says Kia. It had received 355 bookings for EV6, which is 3.5 times the planned numbers for 2022.
Two variants of Kia EV6 launched in India differ in terms of drivetrain. The GT Line variant delivers 226 bhp, 350 NM torque, while AWD version offers 350 bhp and 650 NM torque. Kia is offering the same 77.4 kWh battery in both variants. High-performance features of Kia EV6 sets it in the league of global electric vehicle offerings by Hyundai (Ioniq5), Tesla (Model Y) and Volkswagen ID.4.
The Kia EV6 will be available in 15 select dealerships across 12 cities. Kia will be installing 150kW chargers across all these EV dealerships added for customer convenience. "The EV6 will come with a smart charger capable of giving a peak power output of 22Kw, as standard for all customers and assistance will be extended to them in the installation at a place of their choice," says Kia.
The Kia EV6 is the first BEV built on Kia’s dedicated EV platform, the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It features an 800-volt ultra-fast charging capability, with a 10-80% charge, taking 18 minutes using a 350-kW charger, claims the company. The EV6 will be introduced in India with a long-range (77.4 kWh) battery pack and provides up to 528 kilometres of range on a single charge. The EV6 comes with four regenerative braking levels, where-in ‘i-PEDAL’ driving mode allows the car to harvest the maximum amount of energy from its brakes, says the company.
Kia says it'll offer a comprehensive service package, making owning an EV6 a hassle-free experience. The EV6 will come with a warranty of 3 years and additional battery coverage for 8 years or 1,60,000 kilometres. Till date, Kia India has launched five vehicles for the Indian market – the Seltos, the Carnival, the Sonet, the Carens, and the EV6.
