Reliance Jio, India's largest telecom operator, introduced new mobile data plans with higher tariffs which will be available from July 3, 2024.

Jio's cheapest monthly plan currently costs ₹155 for 2GB of data and is valid for 28 days. The price of this plan has been hiked to ₹189—an increase of 22%.

The tariff of Jio's ₹239 monthly plan, which offers 1.5 GB of data per day, has been hiked by 25% to ₹299. The ₹399 plan which offers 3GB data per day will now cost ₹449, recording a 12% rise.

Like monthly plans, long-term plans have also seen a price hike. The two-month plan of ₹479 which offers 1.5 GB data per day with validity of 56 days, will now cost ₹579, up 20%. Similarly, the ₹533 plan, which provides 2GB of data everyday, is now priced at ₹629.

The entry-level three-month plan currently costs ₹395 for 6GB of data with a validity of 84 days. Post the price hike, it will cost ₹479. The ₹666 plan which offers 1.5GB data per day will cost ₹799. The ₹999 plan with 3GB data per day will cost ₹1,199.

The annual plan of ₹2,999, which offers 2.5GB of data every day, will be available for ₹3,599.

The price of add-on data of 1GB has been increased from ₹15 to ₹19. Similarly, for 6GB add-on data, the price has gone up from ₹61 to ₹69.

Jio offers two post-paid plans currently. The ₹299 per month post-paid plan is now priced at ₹349 while the ₹399 plan will now cost users ₹449.

“The introduction of new plans is a step in the direction of furthering industry innovation and driving sustainable growth through investments in 5G and AI technology,” says Akash Ambani, chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm.

"Ubiquitous, high-quality, affordable internet is the backbone of Digital India and Jio takes pride in contributing to this. Jio will always put our country and customer first and will continue to invest for India," Ambani says.

JioBharat and JioPhone users will continue to enjoy the existing tariffs, the Reliance-owned telecom operator says. “250 million feature phone users in India remain stuck in the 2G era, unable to access digital services. To empower these users with a Digital Life, 4G-enabled JioBharat/JioPhone was introduced,” it says.

Unlimited 5G data will be available on all 2GB per day and above plans, the company says.

Jio Platforms also introduced two new applications: JioSafe, a communication app for calling, messaging, file transfer and more (priced at ₹199 per month) and JioTranslate, an AI-powered multi-lingual communication app for translating voice call, voice message, text and image (priced at ₹99 per month). Jio users will get both these applications worth ₹298/month free for a year, the telco says.

The company says nearly 85% of the total 5G cells operational in India are by Jio.

Ahead of the announcement, shares of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries hit a record high on Thursday. The stock rose over 1% to hit an all-time high of ₹3,075 on the BSE, taking the conglomerate's market cap to ₹20.71 lakh crore.
