When TCS merged its delivery, governance and quality functions in 2011, managing director N. Chandrasekaran assigned the new group, delivery excellence, to Subramanian. A TCS veteran—she joined the company in 1989—she was part of the retail division before this. With the industry seeing a tectonic shift to digital methodologies, there has been a sharp reduction in IT-services delivery timelines. In effect, she had to oversee an industry change across 300,000 employees; 180,000 of these are now part of a digital workforce. In March 2015, she was elevated to the board as executive director.
