The last few quarters have been the most difficult since Kochhar took over seven years ago. Bad loans have not only eaten into the bank's profits, they're shrinking its corporate business. A Rs 3,600 crore provision nearly wiped out its profits for FY16. The worst might be behind her, with FY17 firstquarter results beating market estimates, but pressure on asset quality won’t relent for now. Her strategy is to concetrate on retail banking, which contributed almost half of all ICICI's lending. Technology is another area of focus, as artificial intelligence and natural language learning tools usher in banking's digital age.
