It’s been a tough year for the creative force behind some of TV’s most popular household serials. For Balaji, 2012 was a year of belt-tightening, with cost rationalisations and staff layoffs in line with the number of shows they now work on. So far, Kapoor’s foray into movies hasn’t blossomed as expected. Since The Dirty Picture became a runaway hit, she hasn’t had anything even remotely successful. Her recent launches—Lootera, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobaara!,and Ek Thi Daayan all disappointed at the box office, and didn’t get critical acclaim either. Shootout at Wadala netted Rs 52.3 crore, some 40% less than The Dirty Picture did last year. Kapoor continues to think that the TV industry is going to grow by leaps and bounds even as she bets on films.
