After a lull in her foray into motion pictures, the queen of the soaps made a strong comeback with Udta Punjab, a joint production with a controversial drug theme that grossed around Rs 40 crore. While the movie was a success, the strategy was to de-risk the company and engage in joint ventures. That seems to have worked so far. Kapoor also recruited Sameer Nair, a former Star India head executive, as CEO. However, the success of the movies business as well as TV shows such as Nagin hasn’t quite reflected on the company’s stock, which remained in the Rs 100-Rs 120 zone for most of the year. Kapoor and Nair still have some work to do.
