She started off selling Ayurvedic soaps at a friend’s bookstore in New Delhi. Kulkarni got the idea of supplying to hotels, when a manager from the Hyatt placed a bulk order in 2001. Today, Mountain Valley Springs India supplies to over 165 hotels, including the Taj Group of Hotels and The Oberoi Group, with a growth of 22% over the last year. Company-owned stores for her key brand of cosmetics, Forest Essentials, have grown from 17 to 23, and sales have grown 55% over 2011. Business from spas has also picked up by 40%, and the company is shipping products to over 70 countries worldwide. Will organic growth be enough to get to the next level?
