Dhawan’s task is to win back the business that Dell has steadily taken away from Hewlett-Packard (HP). Her first step will be to change HP’s slow progress in devices for the web. Last year, HP completely redesigned its strategy for sales, support, and technology, making it more customer-centric. Dhawan has also initiated HP’s entry into areas such as data management and analytics, leveraging the recent acquisitions of Vertica and Autonomy. An IPG Enterprise Solutions Experience Centre in Bangalore, the fourth such centre in the Asia- Pacific region, has also been set up. Dhawan believes “a business succeeds when it has a strong vision and is backed by efficient execution”. Which is why a hands-on approach is the “only way to run a business as diverse as HP India”. Her approach may be paying off, as the Indo- American Chamber of Commerce has recognised HP India as the Best U.S. Company operating in India for this year, while the Trust Research Advisory has named it the most trusted technology brand in India for 2011.
