APOLLO HOSPITALS Enterprise, India’s largest integrated healthcare system, has adopted various technologies over the past year. At the core is the clinical intelligence engine, an AI-based online symptom checker developed by Apollo, built to assist doctors with real-time clinical decisions in primary care.
“The clinical intelligence engine is a powerful tool enabling us to ensure that the right protocol is operated in the right place,” says Sangita Reddy, joint MD, who is driving the AI initiative in Apollo. The firm has 36 algorithms in use in the AI space. It has announced leveraging Google’s AI-powered scanning technology for early detection of tuberculosis, while doing a routine chest X-ray. Another area is cancer treatment using CAR-T cell therapy — in which a person’s T cells (a type of white blood cell) are modified in a laboratory to kill cancer cells . Apollo has 73 hospitals with 10,134 beds. Consolidated revenues rose 17% YoY to ₹19,059 crore in FY24. “We acquired a 400-bed hospital in Pune and a few in Kolkata and Gujarat. We are looking at new hospitals in Hyderabad and Chennai as well,” says Suneeta Reddy, MD. “We are the first digital health business to break-even in four years,” adds Shobana Kamineni, promoter-director. But as Suneeta Reddy sums up, “We don’t look at challenges, we look at opportunities.”
