Even as axis Bank waited 17 months for regulatory approvals for its buyout of Enam Securities, Sharma has been trying to bolster the retail business. She has put in place risk management systems, including an application to detect fraud, across cards and retail assets. Retail loans grew at 35% in FY12, even as the loan book grew by 19% to Rs 1.69 lakh crore. Sharma, who loves to de-stress with a book or a movie, occupies a glassed-in corner office that’s smaller than that of most other bank CEOs.
