It has been a landmark year for Axis Bank. In the first half, India’s third-largest private sector lender staged the country’s largest-ever qualified institutional placement, generating investments of over Rs 4,726 crore. Sharma also strengthened the bank’s retail presence, adding 347 branches and more than 1,000 ATMs last year. Simultaneously, it has grown its global footprint, launching Axis Bank UK through a branch on King Street, London. These steps have, to some extent, helped mitigate the fact that impaired assets account for 14% of the bank’s net worth.
