Shobhana Bhartia, 

Bhartia, who grew up in Kolkata (Loreto House and Calcutta University) got involved with the newspaper business in 1985. She was, in her own words, passionate about journalism. Later, her circuit training began, involving six-month stints in various departments, such as circulation and advertising. She didn’t care for it too much and wanted to go back to editorial, but somehow persisted. Today, she runs a mammoth, and highly respected, media empire with interests in newspapers (Hindi, English, business), radio, Internet, and events. A familiar face in New Delhi’s power circles, she manages the fine line between editorial independence and business demands with finesse and dignity.
