Vinita Bali,
MD, Britannia Industriesage: 56
She’s putting her money where India’s mouth is. Bali, who has been the face of Britannia for the past six years, has gone international with her efforts to promote nutrition (and biscuits), which has helped push the company’s financials up. Her work on addressing malnutrition got her an appointment on a global advisory board by the UN Secretary General for a nutrition initiative. Britannia’s perfor mance hasn’t disappointed either. The company, which is the only listed dairy and bakery company, crossed $1 billion (Rs 5,380 crore) in revenue in 2010. Though 2011 was a tough year with input costs rising, Bali chose to make tough calls—such as building new plants in Bihar and Orissa. So, even though she upped capex to Rs 191 crore in FY12, Britannia improved profit before tax by a neat 42%. “We want to become more efficient in our supply chain,” says Bali.
