Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event took place in Paris for this year, just ahead of the Olympic Games. The choice of venue, none other than the Louvre Museum. Surrounded by all the buzz from the preparation for the Games, Samsung got an extra from the atmosphere and the attention the city is receiving. The South Korean electronics giant not only launched the new generation of its foldable smartphones, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 but also a bouquet of wearable products.
Samsung kicked off the event with the launch of the Galaxy Ring, marking the company’s entry into this category. There are, of course, several smart rings in the market. Samsung has however given the tiny wearable a twist.
The Galaxy Ring is focused on the user’s health. It gives an energy score at the start of the day that is based on several parameters such as sleep efficiency, heart rate, stress, vitality, mental alertness, etc. The score helps the wearer decide whether to configure the day so as to relax a little or tackle tasks with vigour. The ring has three major sensors and syncs with the health app on the phone. It generates motivational advice in the app and manages to last a week on a charge. Meant to be worn all day and even be a sleep tracker, the ring looks at simplifying wellness.
Galaxy Ring is lightweight at 2.3 grams to 3.0 grams, aiming at comfort during extended wear. Its has a concave design for stylisation and Samsung claims it still stays durable. With 10ATM water resistance and Titanium Grade 5 finish, the user can wear Galaxy Ring anywhere.
Just like a watch, the ring has a companion case which can be used to charge it. For now, the Galaxy Ring is only being released in select markets which does not include India. Where it will be available, the ring will cost $399.
Apart from the Galaxy Ring, Samsung launched smartwatches which, this time, include a Galaxy Watch Ultra. This is a rugged titanium wearable targeted at extreme sports and adventure. It is meant for those who are deeply involved in sporting activities of choice and believe in fine-tuning and perfecting their performance at these. Other than FDA-approved blood pressure and heart rate sensors, the Ultra also has an approved sleep apnea alert. Samsung also launched the regular Galaxy Watch 7.
“The latest additions to our wearables portfolio integrate Samsung’s most advanced technologies and innovations, enabling you to take control of your health and wellness with preventative healthcare solutions,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “The intelligence, guidance and insights that are offered with Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra will help users turn data into meaningful insights and create a whole new era of expanded intelligent health experiences.”
Galaxy Watch7 aims to help users gain a holistic understanding of themselves. Galaxy It motivates the user to create healthier days with more ways to support everyday wellness. It has features to build workout routines and compare current and past performance in real-time to track progress and maintain motivation. It gives the user a complete body and fitness snapshot with Body Composition for a comprehensive understanding of one’s body.
Galaxy Watch7 is also the first Galaxy smartwatch to feature a Dual-frequency GPS system which can more precisely track location even in dense urban environments. The Ultra and the Watch7 are also the first to be based on WearOS 5.
Finally, Samsung also launched two variants of its true wireless earbuds.
