Stars in the suburbs
The first St. Regis hotel in India is set to open in Noida in 2016. The news that one of the world’s most exclusive hotel chains is coming to a dusty Delhi suburb comes in the wake of speculation that the Four Seasons is opening in Noida Sector 15.
The lack of strategic, well priced land in Delhi and Gurgaon and the upcoming Indian grand prix in Noida has seen room rates in the area soar from under Rs 10,000 to around Rs 40,000 per night. Mayur Vihar, the Delhi locality bordering Noida, has already seen the opening of a dual Hilton and Double Tree by Hilton.
“India is our fourth largest market, and will be third largest in five years,” said Nelli Young, vice president, brand management (Asia Pacific) of Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
