Adani Green Energy operationalises 1,000 MW solar energy in Gujarat

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has operationalised a cumulative solar energy capacity of 1,000 megawatt in Khavda, Gujarat, the company states in a BSE filing. This achievement propels AGEL's operational capacity to 9,478 MW, aligning with its target of reaching 45,000 MW by 2030.

AGEL accomplished the delivery of 1,000 MW in under 12 months from commencing work at Khavda, involving the installation of approximately 2.4 million solar modules.

“This accelerated progress AGEL's dedication to India's goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030,” the company says.

Innovative solutions are being implemented at Khavda to incorporate sustainable practices. AGEL has committed to deploying waterless cleaning robots for the entire solar capacity to address dust accumulation on panels, thereby increasing energy output and conserving water in the arid Kutch region. This aligns with AGEL's water neutrality goals in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, as per the company’s statement.

The Khavda RE plant at 30 GW, spans a vast 538 sq km of barren land, surpassing the size of Paris fivefold. Scheduled for completion in the next five years, the project is poised to generate over 15,200 green jobs.

“81 billion units will be generated powering over 16 million homes annually in India (nearly equivalent to the number of homes in the entire country of Poland, Canada); the energy output can power entire nations such as Belgium, Chile, Switzerland,” AGEL adds.

Building on Adani Infra's project execution, Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL's) technological expertise, AIMSL's operational excellence, and a robust supply chain, AGEL aims to replicate its success in building and operating with India's first and the world's largest wind-solar hybrid cluster in Jaisalmer.

In an earlier announcement on February 14, AGEL operationalised a 551 MW solar capacity in Khavda, Gujarat, by supplying power to the national grid. The company also transformed the harsh and desolate landscape of the Rann of Kutch into a livable space for its workforce of 8,000.
