Anant-Radhika wedding: Ambani family holds mass wedding for 50 underpriviledged couples
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding celebrations began with the Ambani family hosting a 'Samuh Vivah' (Mass Wedding) for over 50 underprivileged couples from Palghar, located about 100 km from Mumbai. Held at Reliance Corporate Park, the event was attended by nearly 800 guests, including the families of the couples.
“Starting with this function, the family pledged to continue supporting hundreds more of such weddings across the country during the upcoming wedding seasons,” a release states.
The statement adds the Ambani family adheres to the enduring Indic dictum, "Manav seva hi Madhav seva" – "Service to humanity is service to God." "They have a tradition of starting significant family events by giving back to the community."
Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani, along with their family, attended the ceremony and personally extended best wishes to the couples.
Each couple received gold ornaments, including Mangalsutra, wedding rings, and nose rings, along with silver ornaments like toe rings and anklets. Additionally, each bride was given a cheque of ₹1.01 lakh (One Lakh One Thousand) as 'streedhan.' The couples also received grocery and household items sufficient for a year, including 36 essential items, utensils, a gas stove, mixer, fan, mattress, and pillows.
The ceremony saw participation from over 800 attendees, including the couples' families, local social workers, and community members. A grand dinner was organised following the wedding, fostering a spirit of celebration and unity. The event also featured the traditional Tarpa Dance by the Warli Tribe, enriching the cultural experience.
This initiative by the Ambani family not only celebrated the unions but also underscored their commitment to social welfare. By sharing their joy with the broader community, they sought blessings and extended their tradition of community service. In previous family weddings, the Ambanis have conducted food service, or Anna Seva, providing meals to people in nearby communities and collaborating with NGOs.
From March 1-3, Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's pre-wedding festivities took place at the Ambani Estate in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The menu for the three-day celebrations featured 2,500 dishes from around the world, including Thai, Japanese, Mexican, Parsi, and Pan Asian cuisines, with a special focus on Indori cuisine.
Each day offered four lavish meals: a breakfast spread with 75 dishes, a lunch with over 225 items, a dinner featuring around 275 selections, and a midnight meal with more than 85 dishes, which lasted until 4 a.m.
The three-day pre-wedding celebrations included five major events and were attended by 1,000 guests, including distinguished individuals such as Bill Gates and Melinda Gates.
