Blue Dart Aviation, a subsidiary of Blue Dart Express, 447 on the Fortune India 500, is part of a global air cargo operation that is bigger than most commercial passenger airlines. It claims to be the only jet express cargo airline based in India, which could not be independently verified. (At last count, Blue Dart Aviation operated a fleet of seven aircraft; compare that to, say, global logistics giant FedEx, which has a fleet of 650 aircraft.) The craft seen here are stationed at the cargo terminal operated by Menzies Aviation Bobba at the Bangalore International Airport. DHL, a majority owner of Blue Dart, serves over 550 airports across the world. E-retail is expected to be one of the biggest demand drivers for cargo services, and sooner rather than later, there will have to be more dedicated cargo aircraft in service in India.
