Maruti Suzuki's sales jump 15% in Feb; Tata Motors clocks 20% growth in PVs

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Friday reported a 15% year-on-year jump in its total wholesales at 1,97,471 units in February. India's largest carmaker had dispatched a total of 1,72,321 units in the same month last year.

The total sales include domestic sales of 163,397 units, sales to other OEMs of 5,147 units and exports of 28,927 units.

Sales of mini-segment cars such as Alto and S-Presso declined to 14,782 units compared with 21,875 units in the corresponding month last year.

Sales of compact cars, including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR, also declined by 10% to 71,627 units as compared to 79,898 units in the year-ago month. Utility vehicles, including Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and XL6, recorded sales of 61,234 units last month, growing 82% over 33,550 units in the month a year ago, the company said. The carmaker exported 28,927 units last month.

Tata Motors registered a 20% year-on-year jump in domestic passenger vehicle wholesales to 51,267 units in February 2024 compared with 42,862 units in the same month last year.

Japanese carmaker Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today reported its highest wholesale of 25,220 units in the month of February. This also represents a sustained growth of 61% over the same period last year, where the company sold 15,685 units in February 2023. While domestic sales stood at 23,300 units, the company’s exports stood at 1,920 units in the month.

MG Motor sold 4532 units in February. The company registered a growth of 18% over the previous month, January 2024, with 3,825 units sold in that month. Electric vehicles (EVs) continue to contribute a significant share of the carmaker’s overall vehicle sales, accounting for approximately 33% of the total units sold in February. The carmaker says it is gearing up to work on potential logistics issues due to disruption in global shipping as a consequence of various international events.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd announced that its overall auto sales for February stood at 72,923 vehicles, a growth of 24%, including exports. In the Utility Vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 42,401 vehicles in the domestic market, a growth of 40% and overall, 42,941 vehicles, including exports.

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) registered monthly domestic sales of 7,142 units in February with 17% growth in comparison to the corresponding month last year. The export numbers for HCIL stood at 5,936 units in February 2024. Honda says this is the highest-ever monthly export volume clocked by the company, fuelled by strong export performance of cars made in India and exported to multiple global markets.
