RPSG to open RP Goenka International School in Kolkata; the only IB PYP school in East
RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, among India's leading conglomerates, has set up the RP Goenka International School (RPGIS) at Alipore in Kolkata. The Cambridge-certified school leverages the latest technology in education and state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a badminton court, basketball court, a swimming pool, table tennis, squash, yoga, and martial arts rooms. Its indoor multi-purpose hall can be transformed from a 500+ seat auditorium into an indoor volleyball, basketball and badminton court. Its roof-top green field area is dedicated to mini-football and a cricket pitch for students. The school is envisioned by young scion Shashwat Goenka and his wife Shivika Goenka.
RP Goenka International School is the first and only IB PYP (primary years' programme-international baccalaureate) school in eastern India. The school is headed by Hema Chennupathy, winner of the GLSC (Global School Leaders’ Consortium) Edu Icon 2023 Award, as the Principal. Varsha Agarwal Rodewald, Head of School Mark Fox and Riad Rojoa, serve as the academic director and chief administrative officer at RP Goenka International School, respectively.
A low teacher-student ratio of 1:5 allows for personalised learning and tailoring education to each student’s individual learning capabilities. Reiterating the Group’s commitment to inclusivity, the school has dedicated special education needs (SEN) spaces to support students with diverse learning requirements.
With the latest technologies, the school has a dedicated design technology and robotics lab, also known as Makerspace, for students to engage in problem-solving, critical thinking and prototyping. It is equipped with tools, equipment, and resources to facilitate hands-on learning experiences in fields such as robotics & coding.
In order to facilitate innovation amongst students, the school has a Young Innovators Labs for practical experiments and scientific investigations. "This dynamic environment allows students to actively engage in hands-on learning. Through the Young Innovators Lab, students can explore the wonders of science, conduct experiments, and unleash their curiosity as they embark on exciting scientific discoveries," says the company.
Encouraging students towards dramatics, the school also has spaces for performing arts. Its 'Black Box' is a space for enhanced and focused performances for those who intend to pursue drama at a higher level; a Glow Room is for sensory play for the youngest learners and a cutting-edge music room invites students to learn diverse vocal + instrumental music.
"The school provides activity spaces and informal breakout areas where students can engage in hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and creative play, fostering imagination and innovation," the company says.
Reiterating the RPSG Group's commitment towards sustainability, the school encourages environmental awareness and teaches sustainable practices. Its kitchen garden is where students can experience the “joy of growing their own vegetables."
