Tata’s SuperApp—answer to Amazon, Reliance Jio—is here
Tata Group's much-anticipated super app 'Neu', which is Tata’s answer to the likes of Amazon, Reliance's Jio Platforms and Flipkart, is launching today. The mobile app, which seems to have pioneered the model followed by China's WeChat and Alibaba, promises to bring all consumer-facing services, businesses and products under one roof. Tata's super app is being launched in the wake of unprecedented growth of the fintech and digital economy at large in the country. With all brands and services consolidated in one place, Tatas want to solidify its space by emerging as a serious challenger to Amazon and Reliance.
So what is Tata Neu and how is it different from scores of other mobile apps available out there? Let's find out.
What’s Tata Neu & what does it offer?
Why do you need all sorts of different mobile apps when Tatas can give you the same experience in just one. That seems to be the core idea behind Tata Neu. Tata's super app wants to give users an ultimate shopping experience, which is why it has combined all big brands to provide customers exclusive offers, privileges, and rewards.
When you download and sign up on Tata Neu, you can order groceries from BigBasket, get a test from 1mg, book a stay at an IHCL hotel, buy electronics from Croma, order a meal on Qmin, style up your wardrobe with Tata CLiQ and Westside and book a flight on Air Asia.
With this all-in-one app, one can win perks and privileges, which can be earned by using different services and buying Tata products. For payments, one can make in-store purchases and pay other utility bills using Tata Pay.
With Tata Pay, one can also make payments across multiple tata brand apps, websites and in-store using NeuCoins, cards, UPI, EMI, etc. Payments in local stores, theatres, chemist shops or any other store can also be made using a QR code.
Like Paytm, Google Pay or PhonePe, you can pay electricity, mobile, DTH, broadband bills, and recharges too. Using Tata Pay UPI, you can send money to anyone who has a bank account, just like Paytm, PhonePe and Google Pay. So every time you buy something, you earn a NeuCoin, which can be redeemed for an equal amount of rupees the next time one shops, meaning (1 NeuCoin = ₹1).
Why a supper app?
Tata's main idea behind launching a super app is to bring all its brands and services under one umbrella. With a base of 45 million customers spread around multitudes of brands, Tatas aim to consolidate them in one place, which could play in their favour. Via its loyalty programme for the core customers, Tata seems all set to solidify its position in the consumer-facing business space.
Is it different from other super apps?
Tata's supper app Neu can be termed different from other mobile apps like Amazon, JioMart and Paytm Mall, considering the reach of each of its brands in India. It’ll comprise its brands, which also makes the app unique. These brands are well known and hold a certain degree of credibility, and the combined power of all the products and services could play in Tata's favour.
