Twitter has launched its coveted Twitter Blue subscription model in India today. The Twitter Blue subscription is currently available at a fee of ₹650 per month for web users and ₹900 per month for android and web users. The social media platform has also launched a discounted price of the annual subscription at ₹6,800, which means the users will have to pay ₹566.67 per month.
With this, a Twitter Blue subscription is available in 15 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia. This comes months after Twitter’s hostile takeover by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in October last year. Ever since his takeover of the social media platform, Musk—who is now looking for a replacement as the CEO—announced a slew of changes such as forming a content moderation council, launching of Twitter Blue subscription and purging spam or bot accounts, amongst others.
According to the social media platform, Twitter Blue subscribers with a verified phone number will get a blue checkmark once approved.
"All Twitter Blue features will be available immediately except the blue checkmark, which will appear on eligible profiles after a review to ensure subscribed accounts meet all eligibility criteria," the social media platform said.
Editing Tweets and Uploading Longer Videos
With the Twitter Blue subscription, the user will avail of a slew of features such as the much-awaited editing a tweet option. The feature gives a 30-minute window to make a limited number of changes to published Tweets. Use it to make updates, tag someone, or reorder the media the user has attached. The social media platform said that the edit Tweet feature currently only applies to original Tweets and quote Tweets.
Once an account is verified with Twitter Blue, the user will be able to edit tweets, upload 1080p videos, have access to reader mode and will get a blue checkmark. "When you subscribe you’ll get Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads, reader mode, and a blue checkmark (after your account has been reviewed," the social media platform said.
Users will also be able to change handle, display name or profile photo. "Subscribers will be able to change their handle, display name or profile photo, but if they do they’ll temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again," Twitter said.
Bookmark Folders and Customise App Icon
Apart from this, Twitter Blue subscription also offers Bookmark Folders that let subscribers group and organise Bookmarked Tweets into folders for faster discovery later. The subscription also offers a custom app icon and NFT profile pictures.
"We're adding NFTs as one of several ways to customize your Twitter profile so you can show off the NFTs you own in a hex-shaped profile picture on your Twitter account. After a temporary connection to your crypto wallet that allows you to set up an NFT as your profile picture, your digital asset displays in a special hexagon shape that identifies you as the owner of that NFT," the social media platform said.
Undo Tweets
One of the important features of the subscription model is the undo tweet option that enables verified Twitter users to retract a Tweet after it is sent. Twitter users have been demanding this feature for a while now. "It's not an edit* button, but a chance to preview and revise your Tweet before it’s posted for the world to see. Once the Undo period is over, the Tweet is viewable to your followers and you can either leave it or delete it, like you normally would on Twitter," Twitter said.
The Twitter Blue subscription also allows users to tweet up to 4,000 characters. Twitter currently has a character limit of more than 280 characters. "You can also compose longer Tweets in a Quote Tweet or reply. Standard functionality like posting media, creating polls and using hashtags still apply. Everyone will be able to read longer Tweets, but only Blue subscribers can create them," the social media platform said.
Last month, the social media platform Musk announced that the social media platform will be rolling out a new, but slightly expensive subscription model to curtail advertisements on Twitter. This is also a feature of the Twitter Blue subscription model.
