Dedicated freight corridor 65% operational; to be complete by June 2024
Almost two decades after then prime minister Manmohan Singh announced a dedicated corridor for rail freight movement in the country for a faster movement of goods in 2005, the 3,381 km greenfield corridors – Eastern (Ludhiana–Dankuni) and Western (Dadri–Mumbai) dedicated freight corridor (DFC) – will finally be complete by June next year.
Around 2,196 km section of the corridors is already operational, carrying a variety of cargo like containers, bulk cargo like cement, iron ore, and coal, as well as milk trucks.
