The Central government needs to boost consumption in the upcoming budget as household savings have dipped and consumption growth has significantly lagged the GDP growth, said Amitabh Dubey, who handles research and monitoring at the All India Congress Committee (AICC). In the pre-budget roundtable of Fortune India, Dubey said the government needs to focus on the MSMEs as the large businesses have already been provided multiple benefits such as PLIs and tax cuts. “This is where 90% of the jobs come from. This is widely known,” Dubey said, adding that a level playing field and a bigger focus towards the MSMEs has to be provided without losing sight of infrastructure creation in the economy.
