The latest edition of the Fortune India 500 is the tenth annual compendium of the largest corporations in India. Aside from the list completing a decade since the first edition published in 2010, the latest list has witnessed some noteworthy developments. The most interesting one is the displacement of the number one on the list for nine years. Indian Oil Corporation, the public sector oil refining giant has been displaced by Reliance Industries this year.
Apart from having a new number one, the list also saw 33 companies from the Fortune India Next 500 list 2019 getting elevated to Fortune India 500. This was huge given that 2018 saw just 12 newcomers from the previous year's Next 500 list. And, the series of consolidations witnessed across the public and the private sector saw some old residents of the yesteryears exiting the lists. Some notable exits include Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, REC, Vijaya Bank, Dena Bank, Bhushan Steel, Capital First, LEEL Electricals, and Bharat Financial Inclusion.
