While the OTT platforms were already hype, pandemic acted as a catalyst and accelerated the shift within the entertainment industry and in the way people consume content. In the limits of home confinement, says Monika Shergill, vice president of content at Netflix India, stories became the only window to the world we knew and provided a sense of connection. However, she admits that the last two to three years were the toughest ones in particular. “I hired two-third of my team during the pandemic, we had to build connections and get everyone to align to a common goal and strategy,” says Shergill.
Also, production shutdowns were really hard during the pandemic, says Shergill. “We are a monthly renewal service and it was so important for us to keep updating our audiences and keep giving them new stories and content in new formats.”
As a team, however, Shergill, who loves to tell stories, is proud that her team came together during the tough phase. "And, we managed to achieve steady and spectacular stories." However, she adds that those times were great ones to experience as well.
Shergill who is an ex-journalist also shared why Netflix is one of the most exciting jobs in her career.
