Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd today unveiled a satellite-based giga fiber service, JioSpaceFiber, which is touted to be India’s first, to provide high-speed broadband services to inaccessible geographies in India.
Reliance Jio chairman Akash Ambani, showcasing the service on Day 1 of the India Mobile Congress 2023 event, says deploying a 5G cell every 10 seconds, Reliance Jio has installed over 10 lakh 5G cells across all 22 circles of India.
For JioSpaceFiber, Jio has tied up with SES for medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite tech to deliver Gigabit fiber-like services from space.
Akash says India now ranks among the top three 5G-enabled nations, with over 125 million 5G users. "Jio’s 5G rollout is powered by a 100% in-house 5G stack, designed, developed and manufactured entirely by Indian talent.”
He adds the transformative power of 5G will provide new employment and entrepreneurial opportunities to millions of Indians. "To put it in our Prime Minister’s words, it will help both job seekers and job creators!"
