Claiming that the civil aviation space has taken environmental concerns very seriously, civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that about 90% of the public airports in the country will turn totally green.
Addressing the Fortune India 40 Under 40 Awards event in Bengaluru on Saturday, Scindia said, “It is incumbent upon us to respect the environment and planet. And the civil aviation space has taken it very seriously. We have about 110 airports within the Airports Authority of India (AAI). I have charted with them a plan that by 2024-end, 94 out of those 110 airports will be completely and totally green. There will be no carbon footprint at all from roughly 90% of the airports in the public sector by 2024-end.”
Scindia also urged the private airports in the country to follow suit. “I am urging the private sector to do the same exercise. Kochi airport and Delhi airport have done amazingly on the carbon footprint parameters. They are almost environment friendly. I urge the rest of the private sector airports to follow suit. They have also submitted a timeline individually to me to become completely green,” Scindia said.
