After having raised $225 million in funding in June, home service marketplace Urban Company is on a major expansion drive. “We continue to add service partners at the 3,000 to 4,000 per month rate… The number of service partners on the platform is going to double in the next 14 to 15 months,” Varun Khaitan, co-founder, Urban Company tells Fortune India in an exclusive interaction. At present, the seven-year-old company has close to 40,000 service professionals across its operations in India, U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Australia. “We are expanding to 50 cities very soon (from 30 cities currently), and over time it will go to 100 cities in India,” adds Khaitan.
Category wise, the company’s business has two large arms: beauty and home repairs.
“For the longest time we provided a portfolio of skin services for women, but that is rapidly expanding now to hair cut and hairstyling, nail art, laser hair removal, cosmetology—the full suite of beauty services for women at home,” says Khaitan. It’s men’s grooming business—which was launched pre-Covid-19 and has been growing seven times since—will also be expanded from just haircuts to a much wider portfolio. “Then we have our massage services portfolio that we are expanding into sports and therapy massages, well beyond relaxation massages,” adds Khaitan.
