Maruti Suzuki is firing on all cylinders to reclaim its coveted 50% market share, and the two new SUV launches—including the much-awaited India launch of the iconic Jimny—are a testament to that. While the much-awaited off-roader Jimny will take on rival Mahindra Thar, the sporty compact SUV Fronx aims to introduce a new design trend in the country's rapidly growing SUV segment. The Jimny, which was originally launched in global markets in 1970, is powered by Suzuki's proprietary four-wheel drive technology, the ALLGRIP PRO. The carmaker claims its special 4WD transfer case lets a driver shift seamlessly from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive on-the-fly.
The Fronx—which has been conceived, conceptualised, and developed in India—will be powered by multiple powertrain options meeting different customer requirements. Performance enthusiasts—who seek more power and excitement—can choose the all-new 1.0L K-series Turbo Boosterjet Direct Injection engine for the first time featuring Progressive Smart Hybrid technology. The Fronx with Turbo Boosterjet engine will be available with the choice of 5-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
