By the end of this year, Portea Medical will have crossed the 2 million patient visits mark. Not bad, considering the ‘home health-care’ concept was untested at such scale. “As we add new services like Doctor Chat and Helpline, patients come back with more aspects of their health-care needs,” says Ganesh. Portea had a 118,653-strong patient base as of June 2016. While Portea is clocking more than 100,000 home visits per month (from less than 60,000 a year ago), its impact is also felt in decongesting hospitals. Hospitals and clinics refer patients (30% of the Portea user base), especially for post-operative care. The Portea ecosystem is evolving into a consumer health-care brand, from being about home health care. Portea made three acquisitions. Medybiz Pharma powered Portea with the licence to help patients get high-value specialty drugs distributed only after doctors’ prescription. Portea also bought out medical equipment provider Health Mantra and health-care information venture PSTakeCare.
