Despite operating in a highly-regulated and competitive sector, Apollo Hospitals has been growing under Reddy. For FY18, its consolidated revenue grew 14%, while the pharmacy business (on a standalone-basis) grew 18%. At the moment, Apollo seems firmly placed as India’s largest hospital chain. But to maintain the lead, she has work to do after Malaysia’s IHH Healthcare (Apollo’s JV partner in Kolkata) acquired Fortis to go solo in India. Reddy was inconspicuous in the race to acquire its smaller rival, Fortis Healthcare, as she believes in the firm’s organic growth strategy.
