The name says doctor, but Dr. Avtar Singh owns multiple avatars: doctor, philanthropist, educator, politician, sports enthusiast, and whatnot! But the miracles that he has done wearing that white coat are beyond applause. Dr. Avtar Singh is the co-founder of Punjab's renowned Amandeep Hospital, and he has achieved several milestones to make this hospital speak its worth.
In a consequential event, Amandeep Hospital recently commemorated a monumental milestone as Dr. Avtar Singh, who is also the chief orthopedic surgeon of the hospital, successfully performed 2000 robotic knee replacements. Isn’t that mind-boggling? Moreover, he is the world’s first Punjabi robotic knee replacement surgeon.
Dr. Avtar Singh has made innumerable contributions to the field of orthopedics. It was in the year 2018 when he first introduced robotic knee replacement technology to the hospital. Since then, Dr. Avtar and his team have performed over 2,000 operations. And to relish this achievement, the hospital hosted a celebration at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Amritsar, on October 16.
Dr. Avtar Singh considers this to be one of his great achievements. He says, “This achievement is not just about numbers, but the lives we have changed and the pain we have alleviated with our technology.”
He further added, "Next-generation robotics technology is an innovative tool that allows us to improve patient outcomes and reduce complications significantly. The recovery time is also faster as compared to traditional treatment methods. I’m glad that I found success in bringing this technology to people and thus rewriting their lives from an entirely new perspective.”
During the course of the last 30 years, Dr. Avtar Singh has done over 25,000 joint replacement surgeries and has treated countless patients with more than 1.25 lakh orthopedic surgeries. Thus, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that performing 2000 robot-assisted surgeries has added another feather to Dr. Avtar Singh’s cap.
Dr. Avtar Singh, along with his wife Dr. Amandeep Kaur, started Amandeep Hospital as a 5-bed hospital in 1990, and now they have more than 500 beds, making it one of the region’s largest healthcare centers for orthopedic surgery. Today, it’s also a leading chain of multispecialty hospitals for joint replacement surgery in India.
Dr. Avtar Singh has been instrumental in creating this legacy as he is the world’s first Punjabi-Sikh surgeon to perform robot-assisted knee replacement surgery. We hope that he keeps achieving such life-changing milestones one after the other.
