WhatsApp has announced the rollout of Message Drafts, a feature designed to remind users of unfinished messages and allow them to complete those drafts directly from their chat list.
Previously available only on the application's desktop version, the draft feature allowed users to draft messages and receive notifications about incomplete drafts directly from the chat list, reminding them to complete their unsent messages. The new feature however, is now available on the mobile app as well.
Users earlier had to manually check for any incomplete and unsent messages. Now, with the introduction of this feature, unsent messages are labelled as drafts, making it easier and quicker to identify them.
“To help people quickly locate them, a “Draft” indicator will now appear for any unfinished messages and move them to the top of the chats list. Whether you get interrupted or distracted while typing or simply forget to send a message, this feature helps you save time and effort, allowing you to find and get back to those messages quickly. This feature is now available to all users globally on iOS and Android,” the company states.
In June, WhatsApp introduced major enhancements to its calling features, with updates included screen sharing with audio, an increase in video call capacity to 32 participants, and a speaker spotlight feature. The platform now supports video calls with up to 32 participants on all devices, with the speaker spotlight feature ensuring the active speaker is prominently displayed on the screen.
The new screen sharing with audio feature enables users to watch videos together while sharing both their screen and audio. Previously, WhatsApp only supported video screen sharing without audio.
The company also highlighted the improvement on audio and video quality by introducing the MLow codec, which enhances call reliability. Mobile calls now feature advanced noise and echo cancellation, enabling clearer communication in noisy settings. Moreover, video calls can achieve higher resolutions for users with faster internet speeds.
Reportedly, WhatsApp is also in the process of developing a new language selection feature for voice transcripts, which will enable users to choose from several languages aside from English, including Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi, with plans to add more languages in the future. After the language selection, users will need to download the corresponding package for a smooth transcription process.
