Can use of high-frequency formal sector indicators – which don’t take into account informal sector – be the basis for upward revision of growth numbers by RBI.
As formal and well-paying jobs continue to disappear, reverse migration to informal and low-paying work could hit economic growth.
The government’s immediate priority should be to save the informal sector and not limit its support to migrants or other vulnerable sections.
Migrant labourers in Delhi and the National Capital Region are leaving in the thousands for their native places with the 21-day lockdown putting them out of work.
