Last year, Fast Company magazine chose Jatin Singh’s decade-old Skymet as one of the top 10 innovative outfits here. Since 2012, Skymet has trebled its employees to 140 and Singh claims his revenues have increased fivefold. Skymet offers customised weather prediction services. For example, for crops such as paddy, wheat, and sugarcane, it uses a combination of satellite remote sensing and mobile technology to make information available to panchayats. Thirteen state governments are working with Skymet to provide weather- and crop-related information services to farmers. Skymet also sells crop-yield data to insurance companies such as HDFC Ergo and ICICI Lombard.
